Julie Reviews Bidding on Brooks by Katy Regnery

Bidding on Brooks is the first of four books about the Philadelphia-based, wildly-handsome Winslow brothers who are all on the look-out for love.

(Except Preston. He's been down that road before and still has the scars to prove it. And maybe Cameron, because he's super hot, but too hot-headedto be decent boyfriend material...)

Railroaded into a bachelor auction by his sister, Jessica, Brooks Winslow asks his friend, Skye Sorenson, to bid on him to avoid the possibility of any romantic entanglements. Fiercely competitive and protective of those he cares for, Brooks was profoundly affected by the loss of his father at an early age. A witness to his mother’s terrible loneliness and his siblings’ grief, the ex-Olympian has never allowed himself to fall in love.

Skye Sorenson, the plucky mechanic at Sorenson Marina, where Brooks moors his three sailboats, is a credible sailor in her own right…and has quietly lusted after Brooks for years. But her longstanding friendship with Brooks has always made romance seem impossible.

When Skye agrees to bid on Brooks, the two cast off for a weeklong ocean adventure on Brooks’ sailboat, The Zephyr, where the last thing Skye expects to lose is her heart.

Return to the world created in the English Brothers books with this fresh foursome of scorching hot Winslow Brothers!

Ever since I started reading Katy’s books, I have been a huge fan and I pretty much stalk her Facebook page looking for hints of her future books. I fell in love with the English Brothers’ Series so I knew it would be a hard series to beat.

Bidding on Brooks is about Brooks Winslow who is Jessica’s older brother. We met Jessica in the English Brothers’ Series and she is about to marry Alex English. So, when his baby sister asks him for a favor, the big brother in him can’t resist. For charity, he is auctioned off to a woman for a week of sailing for two. Knowing the neighboring women and their reputation, he pretty much begs his longtime friend, Skye, to bid on him.

Skye is the marina owner’s daughter and the complete opposite of Brooks. She’s had a crush on him forever but always felt she was out of his league. He’s rich and privileged and she is a hardworking woman who loves working at the marina and on the boats. But her love for sailing is that one true connection that they share together. So, when Skye shows up in something other than her grungy work clothes to the event, Brooks is knocked off his feet by her beauty, finally seeing the woman underneath.

Of course, she wins the trip and they set out sailing. Skye is so torn because she is in a relationship with Pat, who is now sailing around without her, doing his own thing. I must say I was NOT happy with him at all and he really irked me. He made me feel he was using her for what she could help him do with his boat. Along with Skye, Brooks has his own struggle. Due to his father’s early death, Brooks had to pretty much raise Jessica and his brothers so he’s really leery about wanting to fall in love. He’s so insecure about what he wants and I just wanted to tell him to stop dwelling on things he can’t change and just move on. He was so frustrating for me.

As Brooks and Skye become closer, he finds out her secret that she has tried so hard to hide. But, along the way, her secret reveals his secret as well. Yes, we all have secrets and I love how they coincided and blended into the story so well. But, as their trip ends, can they get past it? Will it ruin them both? By the end of their week, you will definitely find out!!

“I may not be the man of your dreams anymore, but I’m going to try like hell to make your dreams come true.” - Brooks

Bidding on Brooks has sexual tension that is off the charts, plus you have the touch of humor added into a hot romance, and it makes for another great read by Katy. I love how we are introduced to the other brothers as well so we get a sneak peek at them. The only thing that threw me a little about this book was the sailing lingo because I did feel a little lost at times. This is a 4 star read for me and I’m ready for more of the Winslow brothers and can’t wait to see what Katy has in store for them.
