In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast," Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

Simply beautiful is only one way I would use to describe this book. Amazing, breathtaking, and heartbreaking are a few more. This book brings together two people who are broken in some form and unites them into a touching love story.
Savannah has just come back from New York City to her home in Danvers, Virginia. She had been a reporter at the Sentinel and due to a failed relationship with a real loser, it also cost her the dream job she always wanted. She is home to help her sister, Scarlet, prepare for her upcoming wedding. Savannah has completely lost faith in love and seeing her sister happy and in love makes her feel like she will never find her own happiness. Little does she know that when Asher comes along, he changes all the rules!
Asher is known as the town hermit. He lost his parents at a young age and enlisted in the service. He was injured in combat and became marred by his injuries. He hasn’t been to town in almost a decade and lives a recluse life with only Miss Potts, his family friend, tending to his household needs. He thought he was okay with his life until Savannah knocks on his door.
“I thought I was done with the world, but I’m not. And I didn’t know that until I met you. I want to live in the world again because of you. You’re my miracle, Savannah, and I will always belong to you.”
Savannah was offered a job in Phoenix but it was Lifestyles’ piece and not her usual exciting, up on the latest news story. With July 4th approaching, the first thing that comes to her mind is Asher. Prepared with homemade goodies to break the ice, she goes to Asher’s house and is met with Miss Potts. Being Asher never has company, he doesn’t know what to think but when he locks eyes with Savannah, he knows he can’t say no.
Asher sets up his arrangement with Savannah and after they meet, Asher begins to have feelings he never thought possible after so many years of being alone. Savannah is drawn to Asher but when she sees his face, she is alarmed but not frightened as most of the town people are. The more time they spend together, the more they are drawn together. You can really feel that connection and it becomes such a tender romance.
“You’re beautiful all the time. But you’re an angel in the moonlight.” – Asher
When Savannah’s new job is not what she thought, she ends up hurting Asher and breaking her own heart in the process. Can their love be mended? Only time will tell.
“I’m ruining you for anyone else.” - Asher
My heart just broke for Asher and everything he endured. He is really such a strong man that just didn’t know how to face the world. Savannah brought him out of his shell and together they are whole. I fell in love with him and I loved seeing how much he opened up and grew throughout their story.
This book really tore at my emotions and was one I just couldn’t put down. I stayed up past 2 am just to find out what happened. As with Katy’s other books, it really pulls at your heartstrings and will make you believe in true love. You really learn that beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. This is not your typical boy meets girl and it’s not beauty and the beast. You have two lonesome people who, when their hearts come together, it’s an off the chart mesmerizing story. I applaud Katy with another wonderfully written book and definitely give this 5 stars!!
