Julie Reviews COME TO ME QUIETLY by A.L. Jackson

Aleena Moore is content with her life. She has goals and dreams and an easy smile. She also has a secret she holds locked inside.

Jared Holt believes he doesn’t deserve to love or be loved. He destroys everything he touches. Haunted by the mistake that shattered his life, he’s fled from the memory of that pain.
Jared doesn’t know why he’s compelled to return, but finds himself drawn back to the place where it all began. The exact place where it ended. When he runs into his childhood best friend, Aleena’s older brother Christopher, he agrees to share Christopher and Aleena’s apartment while he looks for a place of his own.
Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate.
Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.

This is not your typical bad boy meets good girl book.  Usually, the guy is a natural bad boy with no reasoning behind it all, but believe me, Jared had plenty of destruction in his past and it just pulled at my heart to know he had dealt with such tragic events.

Aleena and her brother Christopher were sharing an apartment while going to college when Jared comes back into their life.  Jared was Christopher’s best friend growing up and has been gone for many years.  I can’t say why because it will ruin the story.  You will just have to read it and find out!!

Aleena has loved Jared for as long as she can remember, and even back then Jared felt so protective over her.  She knew he was the one and would be the only one who would ever be in her heart.

“It was always you, Jared.  Always.  I can’t remember a day in my life when I didn’t love you.”

He always thought of her as his best friend’s little sister but when he comes back into their life and stays in their apartment, he sees she is not the little girl he remembers.  She has grown up and from that first night when he looks into her eyes, he knows he wants her but knows he can’t have her.  Poor Jared feels he can never love nor should he ever be loved because of everything that happened to him.

This book deals with loss, heartache, but learning to find your way again.  I loved seeing how torn Jared was, knowing that he didn’t feel worthy of having a decent chance at life.  After doing the only thing he knows how to do—run—you can see how miserable they both are when they’re apart.

Jared was broken but Aly seemed the perfect one to help him heal.  She knew his deepest and darkest secrets and still loved him throughout it all.

“You make me better.  You make me feel things I’ve never felt before.” – Jared

I really enjoyed this book and was really pulling for them to find their way back to each other.  But, do they?  You have to read it to find out!!!  You can feel how much she loves him and you know he loves her even though he won’t admit it to her, or even himself.  It was an enjoyable read and I give this book 4 stars.  The sequel ‘Come To Me Softly’ has just been released!!  I’m ready for more!!
