Julie Reviews PHENOMENAL X by Michelle A. Valentine

Good Girl. Notorious Bad-Boy. One Phenomenal Love.

From the mean streets of Detroit rises the newest superstar of professional wrestling, Xavier Cold, better known as Phenomenal X. His muscular physique makes men cower before him and women lose their minds with desire.

Anna Cortez is fresh out of college and naive to the harsh realities of the real world. Tired of living under the thumb of her conservative family, she defies them when she accepts a job as the assistant to wrestling’s most notorious bad-boy. Phenomenal X has an animalistic nature that even good girl Anna finds hard to resist.

One night forced to share a bed in a sold-out hotel, lines blur between them and they quickly learn that one lustful night changes everything and neither one of them will ever be the same.

Michelle's books never cease to amaze me and she really pulled it off again with this one. I always love a good ‘bad boy’ and X was just what I needed!!

Anna's father ruled her, planned her life right down to the detail without once considering what she actually wanted. Anna basically felt it was ‘his way or the highway’ so she took the highway and left her home in Portland. On the plane, she meets the hot and sexy X, and, oh my, what a man he is!! He knows what he wants and that’s Anna, in his bed for the night.

“I could do things to your body that most women only dream about while reading their dirty romance novels, and I promise you’d fucking enjoy it.” – X

Enough said with that statement, I think I was drooling, and Anna was left quite speechless. She’s very inexperienced and has never been spoken to that way before. Though he’s crude and to the point, she does find herself drawn to him. Who wouldn’t be?

X certainly lives up to his name as one phenomenal wrestler, loved by everyone, especially the women!! He’s never had to work to get a woman but deep down he’s so broken, has secrets and a past he’s trying to forget. My heart just broke for him and what he had to endure but that made me love his character even more.

“There’s darkness inside me that no one should have to experience, and that’s what I’m trying to protect you from.” - X

Now that Anna has escaped ‘captivity’ so to speak, she plans to live with her aunt and cousin while she tries to figure out how to start living her life the way she wants to for a change. She doesn't expect to hear from X again, but having literally run off the plane at his indecent proposal, she forgot her cell phone. Despite his plans to get her for the night, she’s not like his groupies at all, which just ups the ante on the challenge she presents.

“You’re my addiction.” – X

X realizes more and more how different she is from other women, and eventually talks her into being his friend. Well, we all know how well that usually works out—NOT AT ALL!! He hires her to work for him and off to Atlanta they go.

“If we smash these fucking friendship rules there’s no going back. Once I have you-that’s, it, you’re mine. I won’t allow another man to take what’s mine.” – X

As she is pulled into his world of wrestling, she sees that it’s not as easy as it seems. There’s jealousy from women wanting him and there’s jealousy from his competitors. They certainly don’t make life easy on her and that really drew me in and kept my interest throughout the entire book, watching as all these rivals attempt to come between them, and try their best to keep them apart.

Once his past is revealed—believe me it was not what I was expecting—Anna finds herself wanting to be more than ‘friends only’ but can she handle his world? As the story unfolds, he finds he will stop at nothing to keep her safe, even if it means it could destroy everything they have worked so hard for; his career and their future.

“You’re the one, Anna. The dream I’ve always been chasing. You make me feel whole. I’m addicted to your light.” – X

I love the chemistry X and Anna have and even though I seem to want X all to myself, I was really pulling for them to get past his demons and be able to be together. The characters held my interest throughout the entire book and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Michelle’s writing is so in-depth; it will pull you in and make you feel like you’re right there with them. I give this 5 stars and only hope I don’t have to wait too long to get more because Michelle, I may be hunting you down for more!
