Kathy's Week In Review

What I Read Last Week

Lick by Kylie Scott
Lick was a great deviation from the normal rocker romance. It was still the story of a girl (Evelyn) who marries a famous rockstar (David)... but the problems they dealt with were everyday problems that every couple experiences..... Not issues with the press or fame. Real life relationship problems. The book was interesting, funny, and steamy. I was hooked from page one (when Evelyn woke up in Vegas, married with a hangover) and really enjoyed the ride. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! 4 stars!

Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight
Kate is devastated to find out that her only daughter, Amelia was accused of cheating and then supposedly jumped to her death from the rooftop of her elite private school in NY. When Kate gets an anonymous text stating that Amelia "didn't jump" it becomes Kate's mission to piece together the truth of what became of her daughter. Through flashbacks from Amelia, texts, Facebook posts, and present day dialogue the reader is taken on a journey revealing secrets not only about Amelia but also about Kate and their peers.

Every chapter, every word is intricately planned so that tidbits of information trickle throughout the book. Pieces slowly fall into place, yet leave you hanging... only providing answers at the very end. So many important topics are covered in this novel: loss of a loved one, single parenthood, parent/child relationships, affairs, sexuality, secret societies, bullying, depression, peer pressure, and high powered cover-ups to name a few. I found this novel fascinating, engaging, and thought provoking. Don't miss out on this fabulous 5 star book!
