Review: TOUCHING SCARS by Stacy Borel

Timber Nelson has recently returned home after serving two tours in Iraq. Suffering from PTSD, he’s a shadow of the man he was before his time in the military. Instead of learning to live with the nightmares he faced in the war, he drowns them in a bottle of Crown.

Katherine Pierce is an alluring woman with dark brown hair, tattoos, and a fiery attitude. Yet her history is one full of disturbing images that she’s been trying to run away from for the better part of six years.

Undeniable attraction between Timber and Kat reaches its peak and they both give in to the unquestionable pull.

Will Timber be able to save Kat from her past repeating itself?

And will they be able to soothe each other’s scars? Or will their old scars become new wounds?

Touching Scars is a heartwarming and touching story about two broken people coming together and mending one another.  Each of them has been through such heartbreak in their own life, but when they meet, being together is what truly makes them heal.

Timber had joined the service after he graduated and was now home.  He had been devastated by tragic events and suffered from PTSD.  He found a job not too far from his house, and tried to make it on his own despite his nightmares.  Little did he know that one night out at the bar would forever change his life, and in a great way!!

Here comes Katherine, who was hiding from her past.  As soon as she laid her eyes on Timber, she remembered him from high school, but didn’t want him to remember her.  She had such awful secrets and running was the only thing she knew to do.  But when Timber saw her eyes, he was mesmerized and couldn’t get her off his mind.

I loved seeing how each of them had such walls up around them, and how it took so much for the other to break through.  Then, when a part of Timber’s past comes into town, little does Timber know that it was what Katherine was running from.

I haven’t read a book before dealing with a veteran and PTSD that showed the emotion this book showed.  I instantly fell in love with Timber and really felt his pain.  You can feel the love he has for Katherine and that he will stop at nothing to protect her.  He really is a true hero in more ways than one!!

“I’ve been scared to feel so close to someone again, but I can’t help myself with you.  You make it easy to love you.  You’ve settled yourself into every part of me, and I’ve fallen.  Kat, I’ve fallen so hard.” - Timber

Timber is such a sweetheart and Kat was so alone before he came along. I really admired the love they have for each other.  Their weaknesses alone made them so much stronger together.  I definitely recommend this book and give it 4 stars.
