Kathy Reviews The Heart Series by Esther M Soto

Kathy's Series Review

These two books by Esther Soto have blown me away. In a nutshell - the story is riveting. It’s full of Emotion. Love. Heartbreak. Suspense. Most of all – it’s full of depth. The characters are so well defined that they jump right off the page. This tale is weaved so delicately that everything connects perfectly – yet continues to surprise the reader. Scanning the synopsis and starting the first book I had no idea how invested I would become sharing this epic journey with Ileana Harper.

Ileana is an FBI Agent who is tracking a serial killer. In pursuit of the killer she ends up traveling back in time. However, it’s about so much more than that. Ileana’s dysfunctional family, job, and military career all come together to create one amazingly dynamic character. During her investigation, she’s left behind her best friend and partner, Tommy Colton. Fearful she may never see Tommy again, she races against time to catch a serial killer. Along the way, she uncovers family secrets and tries to maintain a balance that won’t alter the past. That becomes more complicated as she grows closer to the man who is her only confidant. What transpires is a fast-paced adventure that will have your heart both swooning and pumping adrenaline throughout the novel. Hold My Heart manages to tie up most loose ends and just when you think you have a happy little ending, you get hit with the cliffhanger...

Break My Heart jumps headfirst back into Ileana’s life. Let me just say that the opening chapter left me gasping for breath. I’m not going to write about the synopsis for this book. I think it is important that you don’t read the synopsis until you have finished Hold My Heart. However, I want to talk about the profound complexity of this book. It really examines the depth of emotion that develops within those who serve in the armed forces and police force. I actually felt as if I was peering into a window of the souls of two people who had survived overseas military deployment. I now understand the sacrifice undercover agents make when they leave their families and engage themselves fully in their work. I now understand the desperation of the loved ones at home waiting and wondering. The feels in this book are unparalleled. Along with so much heartache is a love so strong that it withstood the test of time, trials, and tribulations. I’m cruising along devouring the book - looking at the percent left and thinking that it doesn’t match up, we can’t be near the end - and BAM the cliffhanger comes out of nowhere! It’s one you’ll want to talk about immediately (I rushed to social media to talk to my book buddies). This is a book that I’ll be thinking about until the finale is released. Esther Soto just moved to the top of my must read list. Let me know if there will be a midnight release party for the third book. I’ll be waiting in line for my copy!

Kathy Reviews FINDING HOPE FOR TOMORROW by Kathryn McNeil Crane

Every person’s life tells a story.

Some are uncomplicated, straightforward, and easy. Things fall into place with a simplicity that boggles the mind.

Others twist and turn, and every day is centered on fighting and scraping, yet never finding victory.

And then there are those who gain an inch only to be knocked back a foot. They love. They fight. They stumble. They fall. But through it all, they stagger to their feet, step back on life’s path, and push through until they win. For these people, happiness is not an illusion. It’s a truth, a promise, worth any effort, any scars, but just out of arm’s reach. It stands at the end of the path, taunting and teasing, tempting them to take one more blow.

And in the end, the battles make victory sweeter. More valued. More precious than ever imagined. More than any one person could hope.

This is Liam’s story.
Loyal, protective, shoulders stronger than Atlas'.
Broken, worn, battered.
Win or lose, he’s ready to fight for what tomorrow brings.

Life. Love. Healing. Hope.

Review

Finding Hope for Tomorrow is the second book in Kathryn McNeil Crane's tomorrow series. I would consider it a standalone, but there are some spoilers if you haven't read the first book yet. Searching for Tomorrow (book 1 in the series) is an awesome 5 star book - pick it up if you haven't read it yet and enjoy both of these books together.

In Searching for Tomorrow we were introduced to Liam as Wrynn's sister. Wrynn had lost her husband and was raising a family on her own. Liam was her constant source of strength. We got to see a little bit of his character - enough to pique our interest and yearn for more. Finding Hope for Tomorrow rewinds the clock and allows us to see how much Liam truly sacrificed in his personal life to help his sister through her sorrow. I love that the book lets us see the same timeline over again, but in a completely new light.

Liam is so busy juggling multiple jobs and helping his sister that he barely has time to sleep. He does, however, notice the new girl in town. He couldn't ignore her long blond hair, sweet voice, and happy laughter. After a series of comical mishaps he is finally able to meet Elizabeth and boy does he fall quick!

"While hesitant to hope, he couldn't deny the way she made his heart lighter with just a simple glance or the way his pulse sped up at her nearness."

After getting to know Elizabeth he realizes that they are both suffering from grief in their lives. They are able to bond over their grief, heal from the past, and begin to move forward with their lives. That is, of course, after some trials and tribulations.

On a side note, the book did seem a bit slow to me and I didn't feel as connected with Elizabeth's character as I would've liked. However, this was still a sweet book that I would recommend to a friend.

This was an old fashioned romance that I could picture fitting right in on the hallmark channel. It feels like a nice book to enjoy on a front porch swing with a glass of sweet tea. Pick up Finding Hope for Tomorrow, turn to the first page and allow it to warm your heart! 3 Stars!
